Against the backdrop of the deep integration of the digital economy and the real economy, the development of China’s supply chain is ushering in a wave of transformation driven by technological innovation. A new generation of information technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and blockchain are deeply integrated into the entire supply chain process, driving the upgrade of traditional linear supply chains into intelligent collaborative networks. Digital-intelligence, intellectualization, and green development have become the core directions of supply chain technological advancement. Meanwhile, sustained policy support from the state is guiding technological innovation and application implementation, and the supply chain technology system is being continuously improved. This not only provides a solid technological underpinning for enhancing the resilience and security of China’s industrial and supply chains but also fosters a unique technological competitive edge for China’s supply chain in the global market.

Breakthroughs in underlying technological innovation have emerged as the core driving force for the digital-intelligent transformation of the supply chain. Currently, artificial intelligence technology is deeply applied in demand forecasting, intelligent decision-making and other links of the supply chain. Through the analysis and processing of massive datasets, it enables accurate prediction of market demand, significantly reducing the risks of inventory backlog and supply-demand mismatch, and making supply chain scheduling more scientific. The Internet of Things (IoT), by virtue of smart sensors, radio frequency identification and other devices, realizes real-time monitoring and data collection throughout the entire process of cargo warehousing, transportation and distribution. This makes information in all supply chain links visual and traceable, addressing the long-standing industry pain point of information asymmetry in traditional supply chains. The integration of blockchain technology further safeguards the security and credibility of supply chain data. In scenarios such as cross-border trade and commodity traceability, it achieves the immutability of transaction information, improving the collaborative efficiency and credit level of the supply chain. In addition, the commercial application of cloud computing, digital twin and other technologies is continuously deepened, building an efficient digital management platform for the supply chain and promoting digital control over the entire supply chain life cycle.

The accelerated integrated application of technologies has led to the full implementation of intelligent transformation across all supply chain scenarios. Today, the development of supply chain technology is no longer limited to the application of a single technology, but features the integration of multiple technologies and coverage of all scenarios. In the production and manufacturing link, digital-intelligent technologies are deeply integrated with production processes to build an intelligent management platform integrating material procurement, automatic production scheduling and dynamic inventory management. This realizes the standardization, flexibility and intellectualization of production and manufacturing, enabling efficient linkage between the production and demand ends. Integrated supply chain service platforms provide upstream and downstream enterprises with one-stop services such as raw material procurement, warehousing and logistics, and supply chain finance, making supply chain collaboration more efficient.

Policy guidance and system improvement have laid a solid foundation for the development of supply chain technology. Multiple national ministries and commissions have jointly issued special action plans, clearly proposing to accelerate the development of digital-intelligent supply chains, promote the digital, intelligent and visual transformation of supply chains through a "one chain, one policy" approach, and cultivate an innovation system for digital-intelligent supply chains. At the policy level, the focus is not only on core technology research and development to address shortcomings in underlying technologies but also on advancing the improvement of the supply chain technology standard system. Unified standards have been formulated in terms of data interfaces, data exchange and service processes to realize the standardization and normalization of supply chain technology applications. Meanwhile, policies encourage in-depth industry-university-research-institute cooperation, support the construction of digital-intelligent supply chain laboratories and sharing platforms, provide technological empowerment and resource support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and promote the coordinated implementation of supply chain technology among large, medium and small enterprises, forging a closely integrated supply chain technological innovation cluster.

Empowered by technology, the resilience and openness of China’s supply chain are continuously enhanced. Supply chain control towers built with digital-intelligent technologies enable real-time insight, risk early warning and intelligent response to supply chain activities, greatly reducing the risk of supply chain disruptions and improving the self-healing capacity of the supply chain. In the field of opening up, the deep integration of supply chain technology with cross-border e-commerce and overseas warehousing logistics has promoted the interconnection of facilities, digital interoperability and mutual recognition of standards in international supply chains. It provides digital service support such as international logistics and cross-border settlement for SMEs going global, allowing China’s supply chain technologies and services to expand into the global market.

At present, the development of China’s supply chain technology has entered the deep water zone, with technological innovation evolving from individual breakthroughs to system integration, and application scenarios expanding from single links to the entire industrial chain. In the future, with the continuous iteration of a new generation of information technologies and their in-depth integration with industries, the smart, efficient, independent and controllable digital-intelligent supply chain system will be further improved. This will not only continue to reduce the overall social logistics costs but also inject new impetus into the construction of China’s modern industrial system, enabling China’s supply chain to occupy a more core position in the restructuring of the global industrial chain.

Established in March 1999, SUMEC International Technology Co. Ltd. is the core backbone of SUMEC Group Corporation, which is subordinate to China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach). Sinomach is one of the important state-owned backbone enterprises directly managed by the central government and ranked 284th in the world top 500 in 2021.
